Cellar Conversion, Design and Planning
February 2022
Before his cellar conversion, Ryan utilised this area as a storage space; he wanted to turn his cellar into a self contained apartment. Our first job was to remove the flags, which Ryan then sold for £1000, we then removed the ceilings and a channel was dug around the perimeter and a membrane was applied to the walls. The channel was then filled with a perforated pipe and gravel. To support the structure above, 2 steel RSJ’s were installed in each room, the floor and the stairs were then membraned and we sealed all the membrane and insulated the floor. We then applied visqueen prior to having the concrete laid by a local firm.
Next it was up to our plumbers to move the pipes and fix the toilet and radiators throughout the space and our electricians fitted the lighting and sockets. Once the stairs were timbered and the walls and ceiling were insulated, both rooms and the staircase were fully skimmed. Planning regulations required a window to be installed and Ryan was then left with a blank canvas to decorate as he pleased.
