Kitchen Conversion
Cellar Conversion, Design and Planning
July 2022
When Lesley purchased her home, her cellar consisted of 3 separate rooms. She wanted to transform these rooms into an open plan kitchen-diner, so called us in. Our first task was to take up all the stone flags, which we stored in the garden as Lesley requested that the flags were laid back down as the finished floor. We then carefully removed the internal walls and supported the joists with Across, then installed 5 steel RSJ's following the design from our structural engineer.
A sump pump was then installed after digging out channels around the perimeter, membrane was then applied to the walls and 100mm perforated pipe, followed by gravel. The floor was then membraned and everything was sealed.
100mm of insulation was then laid followed by a full underfloor heating system, then a 75 mm concrete base was laid. The flags were finally put back down, which were neatly pointed once set.
We plaster-boarded the ceilings, walls and steels then finally plastered the room. Skirting boards were fitted and bespoke cupboards were installed around the utilities. A professional stone cleaner then came in to clean the flags and improve their over all aesthetic. The kitchen was finally fitted and our electricians came in to complete their second fix to finish off this stunning transformation.
