Cellar Conversion, Tanking and Waterproofing
January 2022
Like many, Ben used his cellar for storage, he wanted to convert this unloved area into a relaxing space with shower room for when friends visited. Our first job was to remove the old window to make space for a new window, which was to be used incase of an emergency and to allow for natural light to enter the space.
We dug down the floor to gain maximum head height, a channel was dug around the perimeter and a sump pump was installed. After a membrane was applied to the walls - the floor, stone staircase and the channel were filled with a perforated pipe and gravel. The membrane was filled and the floor was insulated, we then applied a layer of visqueen ready for the concrete to be to be laid.
Our plumbers and electricians came to do their first fixes and a stud wall was built to form a bathroom. The stairs were then timbered and the ceiling was insulated, boarded, plastered and finished. Our final job was to fit the outside window, leaving Ben with a luxurious space to decorate and enjoy.
